Fresco
These images are from a course in true or 'wet' fresco techniques tutored by Romanian Church Painter Adrian Iurco I attended in October 2010. The course was part of the ongoing 'Divine Dimensions' series of workshops and exhibitions and was held at Creek Creative in Faversham Kent. The Fresco was painted using pigments on a traditional prepared surface of sand and lime plaster mixed with flax to bind the layers together. The pigments are worked quickly on the surface using a broad calligraphic technique while the plaster is still wet, this allows the calcium carbonate in the lime to bind with the pigment and make the work physically and permanently part of the wall. The technique was phsically demanding and mentally and technically challenging but the spectacular results made it worthwhile.
